Abstract
The recent decades have witnessed significant changes in the tourism industry, driven by substantial shifts in social, cultural, environmental, technological, and commercial domains. These changes have had a direct impact on the surge in religious tourism, and India has suffered the most from these changes. Uttarakhand has a religious destination that attracts religious tourists, evoking nostalgic feelings. These sites hold significant religious, cultural, and historical importance for the entire world. However, mysticism has not yet learned much about nostalgia as a driving force behind travel, among other things related to religious tourism in Uttarakhand. Religious tours are very popular and have gained momentum as more countries turn to such destinations. A reminiscence-based external attractors and intrinsic drivers (push and pull) framework is used, through which the paper attempts to explore the underlying factors behind religious tourism and whether one can relate them to the overall gratification of travellers. Five hundred religious tourists were surveyed who visited various religious places within the Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to examine the data, which was carried out with the help of AMOS software by applying the maximum likelihood estimation method. The research establishes that reminiscence pull motivation plays a significant role in aggregate gratification, as measured by the total number of religious tourists visiting religious sites in Uttarakhand. The motivational aspect of reminiscence also significantly contributes to visitor satisfaction. The findings highlight the importance of external attractors and intrinsic drivers based on their impact on overall gratification among visitors. In the conclusion, the theoretical implications of this paper have been discussed as well as its valuable suggestions for the growth of tourism.
