Abstract
Existing literature has progressed sufficiently to acknowledge that the effectiveness with which an organisation attracts, retains, and motivates its employees, makes all the difference. This requires researchers and practitioners to increasingly realise the importance of HR practices that have the potential to best leverage this crucial asset. Yet, surprisingly, the extant literature is far from consensus on the precise list or categories of HR practices influencing employee attitude and behaviour towards favourable organisational outcomes. In contemporary times, with employment dynamics evolving perpetually, HR professionals need to focus beyond mundane administrative tasks. Through this conceptual paper, the author suggests an employee-oriented categorisation of HR practices with sufficient evidence from the literature. Depending on the nature of the organisation, laws of the land, region and/or industry-specific requirements, the organisations should follow suggested categorisation for better focus and commitment. The intent is to help organisations prioritise their focus and formulate appropriate strategies targeting improved organisational performance.
