Abstract
It is a well-documented fact that music is an exquisite leisure activity that rejuvenates the mental faculties. Music has long been regarded as a natural therapy for stressful minds. This has borne strong testimony during the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19 and even after its exit. The objective of the present research study is to introspect the perceptions of individuals towards music listening for obtaining psychological benefits in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, a novel framework has been proposed to highlight the relationship between music and mental well-being and 334 respondents surveyed across West Bengal via cluster sampling, reveal positive perception of individuals towards music listening for psychological well-being, highlighting that cognition, subjective norm and COVID-19 have a significant and positive relationship with music listening for psychological well-being. It is also explored that attitudes have a significant and positive relationship towards music listening for psychological well-being. The generalisation of the findings hint at the respondents had a penchant towards listening to music during the monotonous lockdowns to unshackle themselves from severe mental stress.
