Abstract
Mobile applications are becoming the preferred channel for online food aggregators to convert users, supported by the rapid growth of mobile technology in the country, which has changed the way consumers find, assess and buy food. Most previous research has concentrated on adoption and satisfaction, to date little research has been done to understand the effects of specific mobile application attributes to actual conversion behaviour. The purpose of this research is to find the main features of the mobile applications, classify them by thematic similarity and analyze how these features affect the process of conversion of Internet users by online food aggregators. The primary data were gathered from 310 active users who were using food delivery applications in the Delhi – NCR area on a structured questionnaire. To extract the underlying dimensions of the mobile application attributes, Exploratory Factor Analysis was used and regression analysis was used to test the effects of the mobile application attributes on conversion behaviour. The results show that the characteristics of the app, its visual appearance and its promotional aspects, as well as its usability and support, are important factors that affect willingness to order food through food aggregators. The conversion drivers we found were ease of navigation, visual appeal, secure payment methods, discounts, and real-time information. The study provides empirical evidence of the features of mobile applications that lead to an increase in conversion, offering practical insights for app developers and online food service companies looking to optimize their app performance and conversion rates in a rapidly evolving digital food service environment.
