In modern societies, the role of libraries has progressed beyond mere repositories of printed materials; they have become evolving and dynamic institutions with significant implications for socio-economic development in their respective societies. The current research aims to investigate previously identified trends in library science, such as the use of information technology, involvement with the community, promotion of lifelong learning, and integrating technology into operations, as well as the effect of these trends on socio-economic development. Specific emphasis is placed on the examination of Indian cases to show the contribution of libraries to socio-economic development. Qualitative and descriptive approaches were applied to the collection of relevant literature and case studies. Case studies included community knowledge centres, rural public libraries, and innovative libraries. The results show that contemporary libraries have made considerable contributions to socio-economic development through education, employment, social justice, and the conservation of culture. There are some limitations that might prevent the effective promotion of socio-economic development objectives through libraries, such comas inadequate funding, technological disparity, and lack of infrastructure. It has been found that the role of libraries can be maximised in terms of socio-economic development by adopting an integrated, community-oriented strategy for library development that incorporates effective policies, advanced technologies, and community participation.
