Abstract
This study examined the use of social media as a research aid among doctoral researchers at the Banaras Hindu University. Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 135 valid respondents across science, social science, and arts disciplines. The findings indicated that a majority of researchers were aware of and actively used various social media platforms, particularly wikis, social networking sites, and image-/video-sharing tools, for scholarly purposes. Social media was primarily utilised for staying updated, networking with peers, searching for information, and disseminating research findings. The study also highlighted several benefits, including quick information dissemination, enhanced visibility of research, and ease of content sharing. However, challenges such as lack of quality content, copyright issues, privacy concerns, and limited institutional support were identified. The study concluded that while social media significantly supports research activities, there is a need to enhance awareness of specialised academic platforms and promote effective and ethical usage among researchers.
