Abstract

The Indian equity market has reached the top five markets worldwide based on market capitalisation in the current year. In 2022, stock markets saw their first yearly fall in seven years. The likelihood of a swift recovery from this significant decline in the current year has been further diminished by rising interest rates and poorer growth forecasts. The study considers six significant sectors like information technology (IT), banking, auto, fast-moving consumer goods, pharma and consumer durables to analyse the performance in the post-COVID era. The study also attempts to analyse how the benchmark index (NIFTY 50) gets affected by these sectoral performances. Though some differences were seen in their one-year performance; one-way ANOVA indicated that these differences were not statistically significant. The banking and IT sectors had the most significant impact on the performance of the NIFTY 50. All the sectors included in the study have shown more or less similar performance. The study can give investors an idea of how different sectors have performed in post-COVID era.
