Abstract

With the advent of globalization as the product market in India has been dwelled by foreign MNCs, so has the labor movement with the global union federations (GUFs), if not equally. Today, these federations are forming an integral part of the labor movement in India, especially in industry sectors which have witnessed the rising presence of foreign MNCs after the ‘90s liberalization. However, less is known about what these GUFs have been doing in India and how they have shaped the changing labor movement in the country. In this paper, we tried to build the narrative of GUFs’ activities and campaigns in India, their nuances and particularly how they organize and campaign differently in a country where the labor movement has a long history of a certain form of organizing and campaigning.
