Abstract

India: one of the most diverse countries with over hundred languages used by seven hundred diverse tribes, varied cultures with different religions, ethnicity, customs, and climate, possess its own unique and defining characteristics like the cultural diversity within Europe. Inclusivity of these diverse cultures leading to sustainable development of the entire nation is the prime ambition by the policy makers of the nation and this has led to the initiative of Self-Reliant India prominently named as Atmanirbhar Bharat, to make the nation more efficient, competitive, and resilient. Women constitute a significant part of Indias populace and have enormous potential to contribute to the nations overall growth and development. In this course of action, modern India has shifted its focal point from women development to women led development initiatives, to make the best access of education, skill training and institutional credit for the women populace. The HEIs plays a major role in skilling women and critically achieving the aim of UN laid Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, i.e., gender equality, and making India self-reliant through proper economic empowerment. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research methodology to observe the role of HEIs, especially the women leaders, in equipping the women of the rural mass, with quality education, skills and knowledge, and motivating them to be the drivers for innovation and change, and leading the nation in becoming a global economic superpower.
